Harrogate-based roofers covering Jennyfield (HG3). Roof repairs, re-roofs, flat roofs, chimneys and gutters, priced in writing and guaranteed for ten years.
Jennyfield is a 1970s estate on Harrogate's north-west edge where the same roof details repeat street after street. Jennyfield is a few minutes from the yard, which means quotes and small jobs there get slotted in quickly, often on the way to something else. The age of the house changes the materials, not the method: we survey properly, explain it in plain words, quote in writing and guarantee the work.
Full strip and re-cover on new battens and breathable membrane. Slate, stone or tile to suit the house and the street.
Find out more →Fibreglass, EPDM and torch-on felt for extensions, garages, dormers and bays. Laid to fall so water actually leaves.
Find out more →Welsh slate on the Victorian villas, stone slate on the dales cottages, clay and concrete on the estates. Matched, not approximated.
Find out more →Repointing, rebuilds, pots, cowls, lead trays and flashings on the tall stacks Harrogate is full of. Removals below the line too.
Find out more →Rotten boards out, UPVC or timber in, vents kept clear. Done alongside the gutters so the scaffold is only up once.
Find out more →Storm damage and sudden leaks made safe the same day across Harrogate, Knaresborough and north Leeds. Proper repair after.
Find out more →Jennyfield roofing has a useful quality: the roofs repeat. Most of the estate went up in the 1970s, so a street of semis and short terraces will share the same shallow pitch, the same interlocking concrete tile, the same ridge and verge detail and, inevitably, the same faults arriving at the same time. There is later private housing towards Whinney Lane and Otley Road, plus bungalows and low-rise flats mixed through. Roofers in Jennyfield who have worked one house on a street generally know exactly what the next one needs.
What fails here is consistent. The interlocking tiles have lost their surface coating and are now porous and rough, which holds moss. The original felt is torn along the eaves where it was never properly dressed into the gutter. Ridge and verge mortar has cracked and dropped out in sections, and on the exposed runs that leads to tiles lifting. Porch canopies and dormer flat roofs are frequently still on their original felt. Shared gutters between blocks of flats overflow because nobody owns the job of clearing them.
Jennyfield sits on the open north-west edge of Harrogate, with fields and the Nidd valley beyond it and very little shelter from the prevailing westerly wind. That exposure is the main reason the mortar-bedded ridges here suffer noticeably more than roofs of exactly the same age in the middle of town, where the surrounding houses break the wind. It is also why verge tiles on the end of a terrace tend to be the first thing to move. Where we re-ridge or re-verge, we dry-fix with mechanical fixings rather than relying on mortar alone, so there is nothing for the wind to get under next winter.
The estate is five to ten minutes from our base, so surveys are quick and we are not adding travel to the price. We survey free, quote in writing with the work itemised, and guarantee the workmanship for ten years. Repairs, re-roofs, flat roofing, chimneys, fascias, soffits and guttering across HG3. One thing worth mentioning: because the houses here were built together they tend to need the same work at the same time, so if two or three neighbours are in the same position, say so when you ring and we will look at the lot while the access is already there. Call 0113 460 1042.
Post-war housing in Jennyfield is mostly concrete tile that has gone porous, brittle felt and fascias that have rotted behind the guttering. Re-roofs are common at this age and we do them with breathable membrane, dry verges and proper ventilation.
Newer houses in Jennyfield still have roof problems, just different ones: dry-verge caps lifting, ridges that were never bedded properly, and snagging the builder walked away from. We put the details right and take over where the warranty ran out.
Bungalows in Jennyfield carry a lot of roof for the size of the house, and any dormer conversion adds flat tops and flashings that fail long before the main roof does. Tile replacement, dormer re-covers and gutter runs are the usual calls.
Blocks of flats in Jennyfield nearly always mean a flat roof, parapets and a management company. We produce a condition report with photographs before anything is priced, quote the whole roof rather than a patch, and keep the residents informed while the work is on.
Roads we are on regularly in Jennyfield include Jenny Field Drive, Grantley Drive, Whinney Lane, Yew Tree Lane, Otley Road, Penny Pot Lane, Coppice Drive and Coppice Avenue,, plus the streets running off them.
