Guttering is invisible until the day it is the reason your wall is green, your fascia is spongy and there is a tide mark in the front room. Almost every gutter problem comes down to one of three things: it is choked with moss and leaves, the joints have hardened and started weeping, or the fall is wrong so water backs up and pours over at one end. Once a year suits most houses, twice where there are mature trees close by. Late autumn, after the leaves are down, is the usual time.

Yes. UPVC unions normally need the seal or the union itself changed; cast iron joints are re-made with the correct compound. Both are quick jobs caught early.

UPVC is the economical standard and performs well. Aluminium is stronger, comes in more colours and lasts longer. Cast iron or a cast-aluminium replica is the right look on a period house. We advise for the building in front of us.

Either the fall is wrong, the outlet is blocked, or the run has dropped between brackets. All three are fixable without replacing the whole gutter.

If the board is rotten, yes, and we will show you. There is no sense hanging new guttering off timber that will not hold a screw for long.
