Stripped, re-battened, re-covered once

New Roof & Roof Replacement Harrogate & Leeds

Once a covering is finished, patching it is money handed to the weather. We strip it, re-batten, membrane, ventilate and re-cover in a material that suits the house, and guarantee the workmanship for ten years in writing.

New Roofs & Re-Roofs in Harrogate and Leeds

A re-roof is the largest job most houses ever get, and the one where a cheap corner costs the most later. Underneath the covering you want treated battens at the correct gauge, a breathable membrane lapped the right way, air moving at eaves and ridge, and new lead wherever the roof meets brick or stone. That is the standard on every re-roof we do, from a Duchy estate villa in Welsh slate to a Leeds semi in interlocking concrete.

We start by telling you whether you actually need one. Plenty of roofs that look tired from the road have years left in them. When a roof is genuinely done we show you the evidence from above, then price a full replacement with each element listed separately so you can see exactly what you are buying. On site we scaffold properly, protect the garden and the neighbours, and re-cover in sections so the house is never open overnight.

What is included

Full strip and re-cover

Old covering, battens and underlay away; new treated battens, breathable membrane and covering on.

Slate re-roofs

Welsh slate or reclaimed Yorkshire stone slate, holed and sized on site, fixed with copper or stainless nails.

Tile re-roofs

Clay plain tile, pantile or concrete interlocking, chosen for the pitch and for what the street already wears.

Ventilation designed in

Eaves and ridge ventilation worked out for the roof so the loft stays dry and the timbers keep their life.

New leadwork throughout

Flashings, soakers, valleys and back gutters in fresh lead, never offcuts lifted from the old roof.

Chimneys and edges at the same time

Stacks repointed or rebuilt, fascias and gutters renewed while the scaffold is standing.

When replacement is the honest answer

  • Slates going soft or flaking apart across the whole slope, not just in one place
  • Concrete tiles gone porous and pale, with moss rooted into the surface
  • Underlay that tears like wet newspaper wherever you touch it in the loft
  • Repairs in a different spot every year for the last few years
  • Rusted nails letting slates go one after another, or battens that crumble
  • A roof plane that has visibly sagged between the rafters

New Roofs & Re-Roofs: common questions

  • A standard three-bedroom semi is usually five to eight working days on site. Bigger roofs, steep Victorian pitches and slate work take longer. A schedule comes with the quote.
  • No. All the work is outside, and we re-cover in sections so the house is weathertight every evening. Expect scaffold and noise, but normal living.
  • Generally not for a like-for-like replacement. Conservation areas, listed buildings and any real change of material can bring rules in, and we will tell you before pricing.
  • It comes down to the house, the pitch and the budget. Slate suits older, steeper roofs and lasts longest. Clay or concrete tile is more economical and right for most twentieth-century housing. We bring samples and talk it through.
  • Every rafter and purlin is checked during the strip. Sound timber stays put. Anything rotten or undersized is repaired or strengthened, and we show you before we do it.
  • A 10-year written workmanship guarantee from us, plus the manufacturers’ warranties on the tiles, membrane and fittings, which usually run longer.
